[\/vc_column_text][vc_tta_accordion c_icon=”chevron” c_position=”right” active_section=”1″ collapsible_all=”true”][vc_tta_section title=”Purpose” tab_id=”purpose”][vc_column_text]“The goal of Level 1 fieldwork is to introduce students to fieldwork, apply knowledge to practice, and to develop understanding of the needs of clients.”<\/em> (ACOTE 2018)<\/p>\n Based on the discretion of the fieldwork educator, Level 1 experiences can include a variety of opportunities for clinical observation and hands-on practice (when appropriate and with direct supervision).[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Supervision” tab_id=”supervision”][vc_column_text]The Occupational Therapy Assistant program at ACC must \u201censure that personnel who supervise Level 1 fieldwork are informed of the curriculum and fieldwork program design and affirm their ability to support the fieldwork experience. This must occur prior to the onset of the Level 1 fieldwork. Examples include, but are not limited to, currently licensed or otherwise regulated occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants, psychologists, physician assistants, teachers, social workers, physicians, speech language pathologists, nurses, and physical therapists.\u201d (ACOTE, 2018)<\/p>\n ACC recommends that Level 1 students receive direct supervision when engaged in any hands-on patient care techniques. Level 1 students are novices; they are not yet ready to implement hands-on techniques independently.
