There is also a library of full text works and a useful section for students beginning medieval studies entitled &#8220;What Every Medievalist Should Know.&#8221; The site includes resources for teachers and additional links to other useful sites.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.historyworld.net\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> History World <\/a><br \/>\nThis site contains over 400 separate historical articles and approximately 4000 events that can be searched by region or theme. Useful for brief overviews.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/awmc.unc.edu\/wordpress\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Ancient World Mapping Center <\/a><br \/>\nMaintained at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, this site offers recent research concerning the ancient world from a variety of different disciplines. There are a number of detailed maps available for downloading.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.classicsunveiled.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Classics Unveiled <\/a><br \/>\nA useful introduction to Greek and Roman mythology, Roman history and Roman culture. Latin Wordstock provides translations of Latin words into English and derivatives of English words from Latin roots.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/chnm.gmu.edu\/revolution\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Liberty, Equality, Fraternity: Exploring the French Revolution <\/a><br \/>\nCreated by George Mason University and the City University<br \/>\nof New York, this site includes more than 600 primary documents also with 12 essays, 250 images, 350 text documents, 13 songs, 13 maps a timeline and a glossary. The search and browse features are particularly useful.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.napoleonguide.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> The Napoleonic Guide <\/a><br \/>\nA useful reference site with information on Napoleon&#8217;s personal life, career, and campaigns. The site includes links about European history from 1796 &#8211; 1815 along with maps, time lines, songs, and images.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/library.byu.edu\/%7Erdh\/eurodocs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> EuroDocs <\/a><br \/>\nPrimary historical documents from Western Europe. Organized by country this is an excellent site.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.medici.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> The Medici Archive Project <\/a><br \/>\nThis searchable archive will contain almost three million letters, and offers &#8220;the most complete record of any princely regime in Renaissance and Baroque Europe.&#8221; There is a special emphasis on costumes and Jewish history during the Renaissance.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.veling.nl\/anne\/templars\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> The Knights Templar and the Middle Ages <\/a><br \/>\nThe DaVinci Code has increased recent interest in the Knights Templar. Here is a well organized, if basic, site to investigate the Order.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pbs.org\/civilizations\/home\/\">PBS: Civilizations<\/a><br \/>\nYou can view the first four episodes of the BBC documentary series <em>Civilizations.\u00a0<\/em>There are episodes on the earliest known artworks in the world and a look at the intersections between art and religion.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thehistoryofbyzantium.com\">The History of Byzantium<\/a><br \/>\nA podcast which aims to tell &#8220;the story of the Roman Empire from the collapse of the West in 476 to the fall of Constantinople in 1453.&#8221; Episodes can be downloaded and are 20 &#8211; 30 minutes long<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Western Civilization Sites It isn&#8217;t so astonishing the number of things that I can remember, as the number of things I can remember that aren&#8217;t so.
