A Message From the President of Austin Community College (2 of 2)

ACC is delighted that U.S. Marine veteran Carl Basham is eligible for in-state tuition as determined by Texas Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson and proud that Mr. Basham chose to take advantage of a quality education from a great college.

ACC was very heartened when Mr. Basham, in response to media questions about who provided him the most assistance in obtaining in-state residency status, replied, “ACC was the most helpful.”

Mr. Basham’s case represented an individual set of unique circumstances and not a broad issue faced by all veterans or active duty military.

Throughout this process, ACC’s first priority has been to help Mr. Basham enroll and begin pursuit of his academic goals, while we worked hard at helping him find a way to meet Texas requirements for in-state residency status.

ACC expedited processing of two financial aid awards to minimize the financial impact on Mr. Basham and his family, and over the past week was in constant contact with Mr. Basham and a number of state officials and agencies to help Mr. Basham qualify for in-state tuition.

ACC honors all veterans and active-duty military and their service to our country, including many of our students, faculty and staff who have served or are serving in the military.

ACC welcomes Mr. Basham and is committed to his success at ACC.

Thank you.
Stephen B. Kinslow, Ph.D, President
