Move Over Martha Stewart, ACC Offers Home Savvy Courses

Austin – Whether your house needs a facelift or just a few cosmetic tucks, show it some love by taking a Home and Garden course at Austin Community College this fall.

“With the economy the way it is, people are traveling less and nesting more,” says Sharrion Jenkins, manager of ACC’s community programs. “Many people can’t afford to hire professionals to come in and redecorate their house or make improvements. So they’re learning how to do it themselves.”

The courses, offered through Continuing Education Division, are being taught by area professionals at ACC’s Skill Center. Students enrolled in the courses will learn home repair and decorating skills by working on projects during class. Students can learn how to create mosaic tile tabletops using broken china and tiles; jazz up walls with texturized paint treatments; get the low-down on decorating on a budget; or design and construct an ottoman.
