ACC Board Members Join Read Across America

Dr. Seuss is 100 Tuesday, so give him a wink as ACC board members helps kids think. So on March 2, 2004, don’t miss a blink with Dr. Barbara Mink: 10:30 Brentwood Elementary School, 6700 Arroyo Seco.
And Beverly Silas will join in the fun as she reads more books than one: 10:00, Odom Elementary School, 1010 Turtle Creek Blvd.
We also hope we’ll see ya’ with Board Chair Rafael Quintanilla: 9:15 at Kocurek Elementary School, 9800 Curlew Dr.

March 2, 2004 is National Read Across America Day. The ACC Board members will read Dr. Seuss and other books to AISD elementary kids. Austin Community College leaders recognize that a passion for learning starts early in children. “Reading is an important way to fuel that fire for learning and help put kids on the path to finish high school and take that critical next step to go to college,” said Dr. Mink, ACC board vice chair. Dr. Mink will give signed Dr. Seuss books to each of the four classes she visits on behalf of the ACC Board of Trustees.

Read Across America is a national day of reading initiated by the National Education Association (NEA). NEA is the largest organization of teachers in the nation. Education Austin is the local NEA affiliate in the Austin Independent School District (AISD). Local dignitaries will read to elementary school kids in 29 AISD schools.
