CANDIDATES IN AUSTIN COMMUNITY COLLEGE’S RACE FOR BOARD OF TRUSTEES TAKE TIME TO MEET VOTERS

The League of Women Voters of the Austin Area is hosting an open forum for candidates running for a seat on ACC’s Board of Trustees. The candidates will answer questions from the public. The forum will be held on Tuesday, April 20, at 7 p.m. in Room 201 at the ACC Highland Business Center, located at 5930 Middle Fiskville Road.

“This candidate’s forum is an opportunity for voters to find out more about the candidates before they go to the polls,” said Maria Johnson, Voter Services Chair for the League of Women Voters. “We believe it’s very important to educate voters.”

Six candidates will be on the May 15th ballot. The two candidates running for Place 4, the seat previously held by Beverly Watts Davis, are Thomas Krueger, an instructor at the University of Texas, and Jeffrey Richard, Vice President of Education at the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce.

Four candidates are competing in the race for place 6, currently held by Beverly Silas. They are: Rodney Ahart, Governmental Relations Director for the American Cancer Society; Marc Levin, an Austin attorney; Veronica Rivera, an Austin lawyer and former school teacher; and Guadalupe Sosa, a community advocate. Trustee Silas is not seeking re-election.

Board Chair Rafael Quintanilla is seeking re-election. He is running unopposed.
