TWO PRESIDENTIAL FINALISTS ANNOUNCED

Austin Community College Board of Trustees announced the names of the two final presidential candidates during Monday night’s board meeting. According to Board Chair Rafael Quintanilla, both candidates have a strong depth of knowledge of the Austin area and of community colleges.

“We had a solid pool of qualified candidates. A Presidential Search committee, made up of ACC faculty and staff, along with community members, reviewed the initial group of candidates and narrowed the list,” said Quintanilla. “These two people came highly recommended.” The Board reviewed the handful of recommended candidates and chose the two finalists:

* Dr. Roberto Aguero, Vice Chancellor of Educational Affairs at Dallas County Community College District, Dallas, TX.

* Dr. Beverlee McClure, President of Clovis Community College, Clovis, New Mexico.

Dr. Aguero currently serves as second-in-command for the seven DCCCD campuses and the College’s 150,000 students. He is acting Chancellor as needed. Dr. Aguero serves as liaison between the DCCCD, the Texas State legislature and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. He assists in the development and implementation of the District’s $300 million dollar budget and has the primary responsibility for evaluating the effectiveness of programs and curriculum in meeting the needs of Dallas County. He has been Vice Chancellor at DCCCD since 1997.

Dr. McClure serves as the CEO for all operations of Clovis Community College. She is responsible for recruitment, hiring and managing staff. She provides leadership in budgeting, strategic planning and state and local issues. She also leads CCC economic development efforts. Dr. McClure led the effort to create

from the Governor. She led the college to record enrollment increases by enhanced marketing and recruitment efforts and increased student activities. Dr. McClure earned her Doctor of Education at the University of Texas. She has been President at Clovis CC since 1999.

The ACC Board of Trustees will invite Dr. Aguero and Dr. McClure to visit ACC campuses, staff and members of the community. Those visits will likely take place over the next few weeks. After those visits the board hopes to make its decision and have the new President on board in early summer of this year.
