Arthur Vargas and Misty Dawn were presented Presidential Achievement Awards during Austin Community College’s 2006 commencement ceremony Thursday, May 11, in the Palmer Events Center.
Dr. Stephen B. Kinslow presented the awards in recognition of the graduating students’ scholastic achievement, service to the community, and leadership qualities. Both Vargas and Dean, who were awarded associate degrees during the 2.5-hour ceremony, plan to continue their studies toward a bachelor’s degree from a four-year university.
Dr. Kinslow also presented Teaching Excellence Awards to Byron Dungan, associate professor of health and kinesiology, and Bernadeta Kaminska, adjunct associate professor of foreign languages. The award recognizes faculty for promoting special learning opportunities, student interaction, and innovation.
More than 400 graduating students participated in the ceremony, which featured Austin American-Statesmen Editor Richard Oppel as speaker.Back to Top
