BOARD OF TRUSTEES AGREES TO EXTEND PRESIDENT’S CONTRACT

Austin, TX – September 6, 2006 – On Tuesday the Austin Community College District (ACC) Board of Trustees voted to extend President Dr. Stephen B. Kinslow’s contract through June 2009. In July, the board conducted a formal annual performance evaluation of Dr. Kinslow and voted to increase his annual salary to $215,000.

“Dr. Kinslow has provided excellent leadership for ACC, and the board is pleased with the direction of the college and the public’s increased understanding of ACC’s critical role in economic development,” said John Hernandez, ACC board chair.

Dr. Kinslow was appointed president June 2005 after serving twice as interim president and serving the college in a variety of capacities for nearly 30 years. Since his appointment he has led many initiatives that have successfully positioned ACC as the regional leader in the state’s Closing the Gaps initiative. Accomplishments under his leadership include:

Reorganization of the college resulting in administrative savings
Development/adoption of a long-range financial model to mirror ACC’s Closing the Gaps efforts
Significant enrollment increases in FY06, including:
36% increase in high school graduates
10% increase in Hispanic students
9% increase in African American students
Development and adoption of five-year faculty hiring plan and a 46 percent diversity hiring rate in FY06
Current and planned expansion of student services, with focus on outreach, retention and success to meet goals related to Closing the Gaps:
Successfully guided completion of South Austin Campus on time and within budget; opened fall 2006
Expansion of College Connection to a total of 13 independent school districts for fall 2006
Implementation of Weekend College in spring 2007
