Austin Police Department Acting Assistant Chief Leo Enriquez has been promoted to the position of assistant chief by Acting Chief Cathy Ellison.

Commissioned in 1982, Assistant Chief Enriquez has held the rank of patrol officer, detective, sergeant, lieutenant, and commander. Before being named acting assistant chief in January 2007, he served as commander over the Northwest Area Command. He earned an Associate Degree in criminal justice at Austin Community College and is currently continuing his education in criminal justice at Texas State University.

Enriquez has been awarded a Meritorious Service Medal, Honorable Conduct Citation, Community Service Bar, Certificate of Distinction, and Safe Driving Bar.

Enriquez oversees the patrol operations in the nine area commands.
