Foundation Awards First EMS Scholarship In Memory Of Former Student

Austin, TX – August 10, 2007 – The Austin Community College Foundation has awarded Kristy Clagett, an emergency medical technician major, an endowed scholarship created in memory of Eric Hanson.

“This is going to help me and my family so much,” Clagett said.

Hanson, a Marble Falls paramedic and ACC graduate, was killed last October when a truck collided with his ambulance. His mother says he would be proud of this moment.

“While preparing to be a paramedic at ACC, Eric observed several students struggling financially,” said Rita Hanson, Eric’s mother. “The scholarship endowment program is something he would have approved, and we hope to see it grow each year. We are extremely grateful for all who have contributed.”

The ACC Foundation’s mission is to raise funds to ensure student success and develop community support for the college. Scholarships such as this one assist the Foundation in offering students expanded access to higher education and training.

“This scholarship will provide support for students in the Emergency Medical Services Professions program at ACC for years to come, making Eric’s dream a reality for others,” said Alex Brown, ACC Foundation chair. “The ACC Foundation is pleased to assist Eric’s family in creating such a lasting memory.”
