Poetry Prizewinner to Read from Works

Lorna Dee Cervantes, whose book “Drive: The First Quartet” won Austin Community College’s Balcones Poetry Prize for 2006, will give a reading at 4 p.m. Thursday, September 13, at Rio Grande’s Mainstage Theater.

A California native of Mexican and Native American heritage, Cervantes has won many honors for her poetry, including the American Book Award, the Paterson Prize, two NEA fellowships and a Pushcart Prize. “Drive” is a collection spanning 25 years, from 1980 to 2005.

Also attending are Sunny Jung and Hillel Schwartz, co-translators of Balcones Poetry Prize finalist “Abiding Places” by Korean poet Ko Un.
