Dance Department Hosts Spelman College

The Austin Community College Dance Department and ProArts Collective are hosting Spelman College Dance/Theater for a four-day residency, Sept. 25 through Sept. 28. Dancers, along with Spelman Dance Professor Nicole Wesley, will offer an open rehearsal, a lecture/demonstration, and master classes in Modern Technique at the ACC Dance Studio, Rio Grande Campus, Room 130.

The Spelman dancers will perform at 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, in the ProArts Black Arts Movement Festival at the Boyd Vance Theater at the Carver Museum. They will perform choreography by ACC Adjunct Professor Darla Johnson, who is currently in Atlanta rehearsing with the dancers and teaching master classes.

The dancers’ schedule is as follows:

Tuesday, Sept. 25:
Open Rehearsal, 8 to 9 p.m., Room 130

Wednesday, Sept. 26:
* High School Residency, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
* Modern Technique with Nicole Wesley, 4:40 to 6:40 p.m., Room 130
* Lecture/Demonstration with Spelman dancers and Wesley, 7:10 to 8:30 p.m., Room 130

Friday, Sept. 28:
Modern Technique with Nicole Wesley, 10:30 a.m. to noon, Room 130
