Health Sciences Department Graduates 122

Austin, TX – December 12, 2007 – The Health Sciences Department at Austin Community College will graduate 122 students in ceremonies to be held Thursday and Friday, December 13 and 14, in Room 8500 at Eastview Campus, 3401 Webberville Road.

Vocational nursing, in which students become licensed to provide patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse or physician, will graduate 24 students beginning at 12:30 p.m. Thursday.

The graduation for associate degree nursing students, who are eligible to become registered nurses, takes place at 2:30 p.m. Thursday. Forty-nine students will receive their diplomas.

ACC’s nursing program recently expanded following the August opening of Seton Family of Hospitals new Clinical Education Center (CEC) at Brackenridge. Located in the former Children’s Hospital of Austin, CEC will house classes for 100 nursing students in the academic year.

“As the primary trainer of nurses in Central Texas, ACC is excited to be able to expand the program significantly this year,” said Dr. Stephen Kinslow, ACC president/CEO.

Other health sciences programs holding ceremonies are:
• Medical Lab Technician and Phlebotomy, 6 p.m. Thursday
• Sonography; Surgery Technology; and Pharmacy Technician, 6 p.m. Friday
