Austin Community College has just launched a new image campaign to raise awareness of vital contributions ACC makes to the community. You might have noticed the “i am acc” ads. More are on the way and we need you!
The campaign shines the spotlight on the diverse programs and people who are ACC. They are faculty, students, alumni, and community leaders who live here, learn here, and work here. There is now a new webpage dedicated to these amazing individuals who keep our economy going strong and make our community an extraordinary place to call home.
“It’s only been on the air for a couple of weeks and people are taking notice,” says Dr. Stephen B. Kinslow, ACC president/CEO. “This campaign will help raise public awareness, and it’s exciting to see the ACC community get involved.”
Are you ACC? Be among the first to tell you story at austincc.edu/iamacc. It’s a good way to showcase your program, your people, and your students. Individuals who submit their story and picture will be considered for future “i am acc” ads. Spread the word!

I’m extremely pleased ACC finally embarked in this marketing campaign. I’ve seen where other colleges have promoted their student success stories to the community. I hope many former students tell their stories. I’ve asked friends of mine to write in. Keep up the good work. You scored a winning touchdown with this one.

“i am acc,” offends my sensibilities in that we are supposed to be a college, and we should be using proper grammar. “I” is a proper noun, and should be capitalized.
I believe “ACC” should also be capitalized.
If I were a student, I would seriously reconsider attending any school whose advertising would earn a failing grade in any elementary school grammar class.
The idea is good; the implementation falls short.

Anne Strohm needs to lighten up. ACC is not only a college but a community of people, thus the people are ACC. The ad worked, didn’t it? It sure got your attention.

“i am acc,” is not ungrammatical except in the narrowest conception of that term.
Using the lower case “i” is poetic license (or, rather, marketeering license) . . . just like e.e.cummings.
And deploying the apparent failure of subject-verb agreement might also be considered poetic license . . . it could be thought of as a poetic elision, with the full phrase being “I am ACC (material).”
It’s a stupid slogan though . . . just like the U.S. Army’s “Of One” campaign.
