Got Vote? Moved and forgot to update your voter registration address? Never voted? Well then, don’t miss your opportunity to register through the voter registration efforts that are occurring on all seven ACC campuses. The next cycle of registration events begins March 4. To date, ACC has registered almost 1,000 students. Please go to the following websites to see campuses’ schedules and find information about becoming a part of the registration and election process:

Not including the April 8 Primary Runoff, the deadline to register to vote for the May 10 election is April 10. The deadline to register to vote in the Presidential Election is October 6.

Ostrich Dinner PlateMake your reservations for Bistro 3158, one of the most unique dining experiences in Austin. The restaurant of the Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management programs opens Thursday, February 28. On select Thursdays through the spring semester, the students of Bistro 3158 will be creating a dining experience that features cuisine celebrating destinations around the globe. Guests can choose from a delicious menu. Your table is waiting. Make your reservations by going to the Bistro website. Due to limited space, all reservations must be made 24 hours in advance. A new spring enrollment record! The 2008 spring enrollment numbers are in. ACC set a new record with 32,369 students enrolled (12th class day), nearly a 4 percent increase over last year and an 8.4 percent increase from spring 2006. ACC is now the eighth largest community college with a single college system in the nation and among the top 200 fastest growing (ranked 40th), according to the U.S. Department of Education. Among the fastest growing populations, ACC students from Round Rock jumped nearly 8 percent from last year. Enrollment was up 18 percent in ACC classes at the Round Rock Higher Education Center.

Experience ACC art at the Carver. ACC and the George Washington Carver Museum, 1165 Angelina St., are partnering for the annual faculty art exhibition “fACCulty 08.” The show opens with a reception 6 p.m. Saturday, March 1, and runs through March 29. All are welcome. Hours are MWF 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., TTH 9:30 a.m.-8 p.m. and Saturday 1-5 p.m. For more information visit the Arts and Humanities Division or Carver Museum.

Floral design goes Hollywood. The students in ACC’s Floral Design classes may have set a record for Valentine’s Day bouquet sales. The classes were featured “live” on local news channels and in the Austin American-Statesman. Phones started ringing off their hooks with orders. ACC students created stunning flower arrangements for sweethearts aiming to wow their honey and save some money. The program saved customers about 50 percent and earned big bucks for the department. “We’re buying new tools,” says Addie Kellington, Continuing Education program coordinator. “Our students have found learning is much easier when the tools work well.”

Come and watch ACC’s critically acclaimed Drama Department perform “Betty’s Summer Vacation.” Performances opened Friday, February 22 and run through Sunday, March 2. The play, directed by guest artist Jason Hays, is a dark comedy by Christopher Durang. It wowed audiences Off-Broadway and promises loads of laughter at RGC. Seeking peace and quiet, Betty rents a room at a seaside cottage. The other occupants turn out to be loony tunes and Betty’s vacation turns into a surreal adventure when their darker sides begin to unfold. El Baile Alegre

Grab your dancing shoes! ACC’s Chapter of Texas Association of Chicanos in Higher Education (TACHE) will host El Baile Alegre with Grammy Award-winning Tejano star Ruben Ramos and the Mexican Revolution on Friday, February 29, from 7 p.m. until midnight at H&H Ballroom, 4404 Brandt Road. The evening honors La Voz de Austin’s 25 Most Influential Hispanic Leaders and benefits the leaders of tomorrow. “We are raising scholarships for deserving Hispanic students at ACC,” says Dr. Richard Armenta, ACC TACHE Chapter president. El Baile Alegre is a fun-filled night with a purpose. Tickets are $25, available online at austincc.edu/tache or at Estrada Cleaners at 2618 E. Seventh St.

Don’t forget ACC’s Got Talent. The college’s first talent show benefiting the ACC Foundation. The show is Wednesday, April 16, at 6:30 p.m. at Eastview Campus.
