Keller withdraws from ACC trustee run-off election

Austin Community College was notified today by Harrison Keller that he is withdrawing from the run-off election for Place 1 of the ACC Board of Trustees. The run-off election was scheduled after none of the candidates received 50 percent of the votes during the election held May 10. Tim Mahoney, Harrison Keller, and Mike Reid were vying for the seat. Mahoney received 48 percent of the votes, Keller 33 percent and Reid 18 percent. Mike Reid had withdrawn from the race prior to the election, but remained on the ballot because his withdrawal came after the deadline for ballot removal.

As a result of the Reid and Keller withdrawals, Mahoney will be declared the winner of the election. All May 10 election results, including the RRISD annexation and other trustee elections, will be certified during a special board meeting Monday, May 19. If the board certifies the election, the new trustees will be sworn into office during a regular board meeting on June 2.

Keller also told ACC that he would contribute the remainder of his campaign funds to the ACC Foundation. Those funds will help pay for scholarships awarded to students who do not have the resources to attend ACC without the support. The ACC Foundation awarded over 200 scholarships worth $250,000 this past academic year.
