Find yourself in ‘Voice, Identity, Dissent’

Who are you?

The Arts and Humanities Division invites you to find out as it unveils this semester’s arts season, titled “Voice, Identity, Dissent.”

“College is a time to define, or redefine, yourself,” says Arts and Humanities Dean Lyman Grant. “Austin Community College is going to take audiences on a journey of self-discovery and self-expression through art, discussion, theater, and dance.”

The fall season kicks off with an art exhibit in September and continues with events across the arts spectrum: dance concerts, theater performances, and literary gatherings.

Arthur Adair, adjunct assistant professor of drama, predicts you’ll discover your identity based on what you want.

“Our wants, what we will do to achieve them and even the measure of our ability to achieve them, can be a clear indicator of who a person truly is,” says Adair, who helped select the theme.

He will direct a production of “The Bacchae,” a Greek tragedy that struggles with identity.

“I know some might consider it reckless, even dangerous for a person to allow their work to infiltrate their personal lives; however, that is one of the benefits of the life of the artist,” he says.

“Can you imagine what can come of many people in the same room, all contributing to this search for the definition of Identity?”
