Satirist Neal Pollack reads at ACC on October 16

Award-winning satirist Neal Pollack is bringing his ” alternadad” universe to Austin Community College on Thursday, October 16.

The former Austinite will read from his work starting at 7 p.m. in the Mainstage Theatre at the Rio Grande Campus, 1212 Rio Grande Ave. The event is free and open to the public.

“We’re thrilled he’s coming to ACC,” says Gail Folkins, Creative Writing Department interim chair. “It’s a great opportunity for students and our friends in the community to meet a writer of his caliber.”

Pollack is the author of four books and was named Hot Writer by magazine in 2000. His most recent work, ” alternadad,” details his early parenthood attempts to be a cool father and raise a cool kid. Warner Bros. has bought movie rights to the memoir.

Reviewers have described his work as “bracingly honest,” “amusingly cranky,” “manic tongue-in-cheek,” and “laugh-out-loud funny.”

In addition to Thursday’s event, Pollack will visit Folkins’ creative writing students Wednesday night.

“Pollack’s work will speak to many people at ACC,” she says. “Traditional students can relate as they make decisions about their lives, and many nontraditional students have shared his experience trying to raise children.”
