Second annual Diversity Outreach Student Conference

Got something to say?

Here’s your chance to speak up and speak out during the second annual Diversity Outreach Conference at Austin Community College.

The conference will be 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, October 24, in the Multipurpose Room 8500 of the Eastview Campus, 3401 Webberville Road. The Student Life Office and the Center for Public Policy and Political Studies are co-hosts of the event.

The Diversity Outreach Student Conference promotes awareness on contemporary issues and provides opportunities for students to build leadership skills in a diverse setting.

Participants engage in thought-provoking discussions spanning a wide range of topics including sexism, global education systems, the media, and leadership. This year there is an additional focus on the current political climate, its state, and how it relates to students.

“Today’s students are tomorrow’s leaders,” says Cheryl Richard, director of Student Life. “This is a great platform for many of them to begin exercising their voice on issues that affect them in a public arena.”

The schedule includes speak-out sessions, discussion panels, and conversation rooms featuring figures in education, media, and government. Visiting Danish university students will discuss their country’s free education system during one session.
