Earl Maxwell Endowed Scholarship established

ACC Foundation endowment supports students in business programs

October 20, 2008 – Austin, TX – The Austin Community College Foundation is pleased to announce the Earl Maxwell Endowed Scholarship. The scholarship has been made possible through the generosity of the accounting firm Maxwell Locke & Ritter LLP.

The scholarship will provide support to students entering the business field through programs in ACC’s Business Studies Division. The endowment recognizes the contributions of Maxwell, who was the Founding Leading Partner in the accounting firm until his retirement in October 2007 and is a respected community leader in Central Texas. Maxwell helped found the ACC Foundation, serving on its board from 1991 to 2000. He was chair for two years.

“Earl’s early and ongoing support of the Austin Community College Foundation has done so much to shape our vision of expanding access to higher education and training throughout the Austin Community College District,” says David Bender, chief financial officer of Maxwell Locke & Ritter and a current Foundation board member.

“Maxwell Locke & Ritter is happy to perpetuate Earl’s work through the establishment of an endowed scholarship,” he added.

This new scholarship helps the Foundation continue Maxwell’s efforts to increase   scholarship opportunities for ACC students. This year, the Foundation awarded $365,000 in scholarships to 275 students.

“Earl’s vision provided a road map for the ACC Foundation,” says Tom Gallagher, chair of the ACC Foundation board.  “His commitment to the value of education has assisted hundreds of students over the years.”
