ACC hosts reception for Latino students

Austin Community College invites current and prospective students to bring their family and friends with them to the third annual Hispanic Student Reception: Latino Connection on Wednesday, October 22.

The reception begins at 5:30 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room 8500 of the Eastview Campus, 3401 Webberville Road. Food, live entertainment, and prizes will be available. The event is free and open to the public.

Latino Connection offers students access to valuable college resources such as financial aid, degree planning, and transfer assistance. The Student Support and Success Division is host of the event.

During the reception, students will have the opportunity to meet college faculty, staff, and peers while gaining direct access to an array of tools needed for a positive and successful educational experience.

“Our goal is to allow students to meet with people who can answer their questions and get them to embrace the opportunities that higher education provides,” says Dr. Richard Armenta, student success associate vice president. “This is just one way that we can let our Latino students know about the tremendous support and resources here, and that ACC is truly a great place to start on the path to pursuing their goals.”

This year’s reception features a presentation by Eric Cruz, who was selected in May as the 2008 Teacher of the Year by the Austin Independent School District.
