ACC Hosts Martin Luther King Jr. Legacy Awards

Event honors area youth 2-4 p.m. Sunday, January 18, at the Eastview Campus

Austin Community College will host the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Legacy Awards 2-4 p.m. Sunday, January 18, at the Eastview Campus, 3401 Webberville Rd., to recognize outstanding high school youth.

“Austin Community College is pleased to partner with the Austin Area Heritage Council to put together this meaningful community event,” says Loretta Edelen, ACC director of community outreach. “We invite and encourage all members of the community to join us in celebrating the achievements of our youth even as we commemorate the life of Dr. King.”

The awards recognize 11th- and 12th-grade students who excel in areas such as the arts, athletics, academics, and community service. Applied Materials and the Seton Family of Hospitals will present the awards.

On Monday, January 19, ACC faculty, staff, and students join other colleges and universities and those throughout Central Texas for the 16th annual Martin Luther King Jr. March Celebration through downtown Austin. The event begins 9 a.m. at the East Mall Circle on the University of Texas at Austin campus.

All college offices close January 19 for the national holiday. They reopen Tuesday, January 20, which is also the day spring semester classes begin.
