February 6-March 4 – Art exhibit

“Art @ ACC Faculty Exhibit” A faculty art exhibit will be on display February 6-March 4 in the foyer of the Highland Business Center, 5930 Middle Fiskville Road. A reception will be held 6-8 p.m. February 10. The exhibit is free and open to the public. For more information: 223.3265.

February 19 – Lecture

“Identity in Spirituality and Religion: A Panel Discussion with Religious and Community Leaders”
Why do we believe what we believe? How do our spiritual beliefs and practices affect the way we see ourselves and others? How do religious identities intersect and diverge within the local Austin community? Join religious studies faculty and local community leaders for a panel discussion of religious identity 7 p.m., February 19 in the Mainstage Theater of the Rio Grande Campus, 1212 Rio Grande St. Sponsored by the ACC Ethics Resource Center and the Department of Philosophy, the event is free and open to the public. February 27-March 8 – Theater

“The Flu Season” The ACC Drama Department presents the Oppenheimer Award-winning play by Will Eno. Directed by Jodi Jinks, “Flu Season” reveals a love story that’s both funny and tragic. February 27-March 1 and March 6-8 in the Gallery Theater of the Rio Grande Campus, 1212 Rio Grande St. Showtimes are 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays. March 5 – Literary

“Poetry readings by John Poch and Usha Akella” The readings will begin at 7 p.m., March 5 in the Gallery Theatre of the Rio Grande Campus, 1212 Rio Grande St. Donald Justice Poetry Prize winner John Poch reads from his book “Two Men Fighting with a Knife,” while Usha Akella reads from “A Face That Does Not Bear the Footprints of the World,” her latest book released at the 2008 International Rumi Conference in India. March 12 – Lecture

“Dissent in Spirituality and Religion: A Panel Discussion with Religious and Community Leaders” How do we deal with differences in belief and conviction within the community? How do religious communities voice their dissent from social and political norms? How do we communicate about our differences and how can this lead to social action and change? Join religious studies faculty and community leaders as they explore dissent at7 p.m. March 12 in the Multipurpose Room 8500 (Building 8000) of the Eastview Campus, 3401 Webberville Road. “Readings by Maxine Beach and Stephen Kuusisto” Beach is the author of the novel “Neurotica,” while Kuusisto is the author of two memoirs concerning blindness, “Planet of the Blind” and “Eavesdropping,” and a volume of poetry, “Only Bread Only Light.” At 7 p.m. April 2, in the Gallery Theater, Rio Grande Campus, 1212 Rio Grande St. The event is free and open to the public. “In 2 the West” The ACC Drama and Creative Writing departments co-present short plays written by ACC students and community participants. Religious Studies Lecture Series” February 3, March 24, and April 21. The ACC Religious Studies Department hosts panel discussions at 7 p.m. on the above dates at Austin Java, 1206 Parkway, to explore a particular religious tradition and its presence in the Austin community. Panelists will include a guest speaker from a local religious group, as well as an ACC faculty member and two student panelists.
