Award-winning poets read at Rio Grande

Award-winning poets John Poch and Usha Akella will read from their recent works Thursday, March 5, 7 p.m. in the Rio Grande Campus Gallery Theater, 1212 Rio Grande St.

ACC’s Creative Writing department is hosting the reading.

Akella’s work was awarded the Maryland Poetry Review’s Egan Memorial award and was a finalist in the Wisconsin University Press contest. Her books include A Face That Does Not Bear the Footprints of the World and Kali Dances_ So do I.

John Poch is a creative writing teacher at Texas Tech University and published his first book, Poems, in 2004. His most recent book, Two Men Fighting with a Knife, won the prestigious Donald Justice Poetry prize. His work has appeared in The Nation, The Yale Review, and the New England Review.
