The new 7-story parking garage at the Rio Grande Campus will open as planned on Monday, August 24, the first day of fall classes.
The garage will provide 543 additional parking spaces at the corner of 12th Street and Shoal Creek. For information regarding the garage, please visit http://www.austincc.edu/locations/garage.php.
Please allow yourself ample time to park while everyone gets used to the new garage. During the first week of classes, ACC District Police will assist faculty, staff, and students as they enter and exit the parking garage. A valid ACC parking permit is required and may be purchased at any campus Cashier’s Office. After the first week of classes, an ACC ID card also is required to enter and exit the garage.
The Rio Grande Campus Manager’s Office and ACC District Police will closely monitor garage operations to determine if additional procedures need to be implemented to facilitate garage use. Questions or comments should be directed to the campus manager’s office at (512-223-3002) or ACC District Police (512-223-1231).
The best way to avoid parking problems is to employ alternative forms of transportation, efforts that will reduce ACC’s carbon footprint and promote the college’s sustainability goals. Every campus has bike racks, and ACC encourages carpooling and the use of mass transit. Additionally, all campuses now include preferred parking spots for low-emission, fuel-efficient vehicles.

There is one accessible parking space allocated within the Garage on Level 1 strictly for ACC Bookstore Customer Parking. All other accessible parking for the Rio Grande Campus is located north of the Annex Building between West Avenue and Rio Grande Street.

The parking garage was designed to accommodate 543 vehicles. There are two time-limited parking spaces dedicated to bookstore customers; one of which will be an accessible space. All other accessible parking spaces is located in the RGC Annex Lot at the Main Campus. Levels 1, 2 & 3 are currently allocated for ACC Faculty/Staff totaling 195 parking spaces. Levels 4, 5, 6 & 7 are currently allocated for ACC Students totaling 346 parking spaces. Additionally, there are approximately 219 parking spaces at the city lot adjacent to the parking garage and on the tennis courts that are allocated for ACC Students. We understand that the parking needs at Rio Grande Campus outnumber the parking provided, and we are making efforts to add parking where possible. We encourage carpooling and public transportation as parking downtown in particular is especially hard to come by.

Update: The garage contractor intends to re-stripe the garage soon (after it closes for the day). Students will be allowed more parking as Faculty/Staff are not using all of the spaces allotted to them.

Garage Update: an additional 64 student parking spaces, mostly located on Level 3, were added Wednesday, October 14. This brings the total number of student spaces to 410. Space has been set aside at the west ends of Levels 2-7 to ease vehicle turnaround and maneuvering.
