ACC Dance Professor Allison Orr

Funny, outrageous, and smart are just some of the words used by Austin art critics to describe ACC dance professor Allison Orr, founder and artistic director of Forklift Danceworks. Orr, a former ACC student, draws inspiration from everyday life, with a “desire to make visible aspects of daily life which are often invisible,” according to her website. Past performances have included people walking their dogs, maintenance workers, and Austin firefighters.

Orr’s latest work is The Trash Project, an evening of dance performed by the employees and machinery of Austin’s Solid Waste Service Department. The company’s biggest project to date is getting a lot of attention. You can watch the rehearsal video here.

The Trash Project will take place on Saturday, September 12 at 7:30 p.m. at Austin Studios tarmac, 1901 East 51st Street. It’s free and open to the public. To check out past performances choreographed by Allison Orr, visit the Forklift Danceworks website.
