ACC Marks International Year of Astronomy

The Austin Community College District is holding a series of talks in honor of the International Year of Astronomy, which celebrates the 400th anniversary of Galileo’s work on the telescope and other scientific advancements.

The first talk is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, September 18, at ACC’s Cypress Creek Campus in Cedar Park (1555 Cypress Creek Road – Building 1000, Room 1102). Dr. Jim Heath, ACC professor of astronomy and physics, will trace the development of the Scientific Method through the discoveries and ideas of renowned philosophers. At 8:30 p.m., a “Star Party” observation session will be held outside in conjunction with Friends of the Austin Planetarium, a non-profit group dedicated to the creation of a planetarium in Austin.

Future talks are scheduled for October 16, November 13, and December 4. The public is invited to participate in all events.
