ACC Recognized for Excellence in Accounting & Financial Reporting

The Austin Community College District is again being recognized for its excellence in accounting and financial reporting. The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) awarded ACC the Certificate of Achievement in Financial Reporting. This is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting.

The 2009 award is ACC’s sixth consecutive GFOA Certificate of Achievement and recognizes the college for its comprehensive annual financial report for the 2008 fiscal year.

“The GFOA’s Certificate of Achievement in Financial Reporting is very important to ACC,” says Neil Vickers, Associate Vice President, Finance & Budget. “The certificate provides third-party validation of the college’s commitment to full disclosure and transparency of its financial standing and performance. This, along with a clean financial audit, demonstrates that the college is an excellent steward of student and taxpayer funds.”

The Certificate of Achievement comes on the heels of another affirmation of the college’s financial strength. In October, Standard & Poor’s raised the college’s bond rating from A to AA-. That is an increase of two rating levels. Standard & Poor’s said the upgrade reflects ACC’s consistently strong financial operations, increasing enrollment, and a tax base that has grown due to the college’ recent annexation of Round Rock into the district.
