ACC’s Green Corridor Collaborative Wins Million Dollar Grant

The Austin Community College District’s Green Corridor Collaborative recently won a $1.13 million stimulus grant to develop curriculum in emerging green economy fields. The Collaborative is made up of ACC, the Dallas County Community College District, the Alamo Colleges, and several other institutions, a partnership formed with the goals of putting Texans to work in green careers and attracting federal stimulus dollars to the region.

The $1.13 million grant, administered by the Texas Workforce Commission, will be used to develop curriculum with the assistance of industry experts in the areas of construction, HVAC, power systems, and electrical systems. That curriculum will be shared among the participating schools.

“This grant will enable us to give our students the knowledge that employers want,” said Mike Midgley, ACC’s vice president of Workforce Education and Business Development. “We will continue to apply for grants that will help establish Texas as a leader in renewable energy-related education.”

ACC hopes to have the curriculum developed by 2011.
