Noyce Scholarships Offer $31,000 Toward College

Austin Community College and St. Edward’s University have partnered to bring the Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program to Central Texas.

The Noyce Scholarships, funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), are aimed at encouraging talented math and science majors, particularly those from underrepresented groups, to consider teaching as a profession.

ACC students who are selected to become Noyce Scholars will receive up to $31,000 of scholarship money while enrolled at St. Edward’s University. Upon completion of their degree, scholarship recipients are expected to teach in AISD high-need schools.

Students who apply must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 and must have at least 60 undergraduate hours by the start of the 2010 Fall Semester. The scholarship is open to math or science majors or candidates for an associate of arts in teaching at Austin Community College.

Noyce applications are currently being accepted for the 2010-2011 academic year. The application deadline is March 1, 2010.
