Honors Program Brings ‘Cosmic Cowboy’ to RGC

Bob Livingston

Bob “The Cosmic Cowboy” Livingston will give a free concert from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 8, at the Rio Grande Campus.

“Bob’s performance is part of a series we do twice a year,” says Dr. Anne-Marie Thomas, coordinator of the Honors Program which hosts the concert. “We’re happy for everyone to come out and enjoy the show and maybe learn more about the Honors Program.”

The concert will be held on the outdoor deck, located between the campus’ main building and annex.

In addition to performing, Livingston is guest lecturer for English Professor Joe O’Connell’s Introduction to Literature course, “Texas Writers,” which is part of the Honors Program.

Livingston earned his “Cosmic Cowboy” nickname by fusing his interest in world music with country-western. He toured with singer Jerry Jeff Walker in the ’70s and later embarked on an international tour that took him into Vietnam, India, Pakistan, Africa, and the Middle East. In 2004 he released the “Mahatma Gandhi & Sitting Bull,” named a top 10 CD that year by the Austin American-Statesman.

Today, Livingston is director of Texas Music International, a non-profit organization that explores multicultural themes in music and art and promotes the music and folklore of Texas internationally.
