Women, get green jobs info Saturday, May 1

women in green jobsThe Austin Community College District is hosting a free information session Saturday, May 1, to promote “Women in Green Jobs,” an effort to recruit more women into the emerging solar technology field. The session will be 10 a.m. to noon in Building 4000, Room 4136 of the Northridge Campus, 11928 Stonehollow Drive.

Participants will hear about job opportunities in the solar Industry and information about workforce training available through ACC. Instructors Cathy Redson and Suzanne White will take questions from the audience and present data on where Green-Tech is going.

As of 2009, only 10 percent of the 500+ ACC students who had studied solar technology were women.

“With the growing importance of this field, we need to make recruitment of women a priority,” Redson says. “ACC’s program will help ensure that women realize the opportunities that are out there.”

The “Women in Green Jobs” campaign is funded by a $59,800 contract from the U.S. Department of Labor – Women’s Bureau. Through the project, ACC hopes to boost the percentage of women in all “Green Tech” courses at ACC.

Anyone interested in attending the information session should register at the Women in Green Jobs website. Individuals who cannot attend the May 1 information session may call (512) 223.7520.
