The Austin Community College chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the honor society of two-year colleges, won a number of awards at the organization’s 2010 regional and international conventions.
Recently 19 students and 2 advisors attended the regional convention in Houston. The ACC chapter, Alpha Gamma Pi, received the following honors:
- Top Chapter for outstanding scholarly activities, leadership, and service within the chapter, college, and community
- 2nd place, Icarus Award for outstanding service project
- Five Star Award – highest level of achievement for chapters
- Pinnacle Chapter (increased membership by 10 percent)
- Texas Hall of Honor for Outstanding Members, Katherine Petsche
- District V Hall of Honor for Outstanding Members, Kittlyn Staas, Garrett Staas, Julie Campbell, Beth McBeth Perez, Roger Ward, Jamie Fernandez, Corey Bayless
- Award of Merit for Outstanding Alumni, Jennifer Palmer-Lee
- Texas Hall of Honor for Outstanding Advisors, Dr. Reed Peoples
- Yearbook Award of Merit
- Chapter elected Garrett Staas to serve as District V vice president, Texas Regional Officers (2010-2011)
- Entry in poster exhibit
Students and advisors also took part in the international Phi Theta Kappa convention in Orlando, Florida in April. Honors include:
- Distinguished Chapter, top 25 among 1,250 chapters
- Scholarship Hallmark, top 25
- Distinguished Chapter Officer, Corey Bayless
- Distinguished Member nominee, Leslie Harlan
- Outstanding Chapter President nominee, Katherine Petsche

Congrats PTK!Outstanding achievement through hard work and dedication!I have witnessed first hand the active commitment to PTK values and mission of Dr. Peoples,Julie,Katherine,and Corey and know that everyone else must be just as committed.Thank you for setting the example!
