Austin Community College is hosting information sessions for prospective students of the college’s new Utility Lineworker Program, in time for the fall semester.

Prospective students will have an opportunity to learn more about employment prospects, financial aid, degree and certificate options, and program requirements. The sessions are free; however, there is a $5 fee if you wish to test your aptitude in a pole-climbing assessment.

ACC developed the Utility Lineworker Program this year in partnership with Central Texas utility companies to address a rising demand for skilled, licensed utility workers. Classes start this fall.

Students can earn a two-year associate degree that offers the greatest career opportunities or complete a shorter technical certificate that allows quick entry into the profession at a lower level. The U.S. Labor Department reports area lineworkers earn on average $20.23 per hour or $42,080 per year.
