Benefits

TexFlex Annual Enrollment

TexFlex is even more important when employees budget for the insurance cost increases, and it costs less for them to join this upcoming plan year. Don’t forget: Employees are automatically re-enrolled for the same contribution amount unless they make changes during Annual Enrollment, which ends July 30. Important TexFlex updates:

  • Starting January 1, 2011, new federal law requires a doctor’s prescription to cover certain over-the-counter (OTC) medicines and drugs, such as cold medicine, pain relievers, and nicotine patches and gum. Employees should adjust their annual contribution if needed.
  • Starting January 1, 2011, employees won’t be able to use TexFlex debit cards on certain OTC items, even if they have a prescription. However, employees can submit a claim for reimbursement for these charges.
  • Employees should change or drop their day care account contributions if their dependents have already turned 13 or will turn 13 between September 1 through August 31. After a child turns 13, he or she will no longer be eligible for the TexFlex Program. A 13th birthday does not qualify for mid-year plan changes.

The TexFlex account fee will drop from $2 to $1 a month, beginning September 1, 2010. The $15 annual fee for the optional debit card will stay the same.

Sick Leave and Personal Leave Policy Change

After several concerns were mentioned regarding our sick and personal leave policies, we have updated both the Sick Leave and Personal Leave policies regarding scheduled appointments.

Now if an employee needs to be absent for a scheduled medical, dental, vision, x-ray, testing or physical therapy appointment (see policy for more details), the employee will need to complete an Employee Leave Request form. The employee will need to complete the Sick leave portion of the form and submit the document to their immediate supervisor for approval. Employees no longer will have to use their Personal leave for these types of scheduled appointments.

If you have any questions, please contact Alisol Valdez at [email protected] or 223-7800.

HR Connections is designed to update employees on new policies, & practices, changes related to the operations or procedures and to announce new programs. If you have a question or feedback, please email [email protected].
