Golf Scramble Raises $24,000 for Student Emergency Fund

More than 100 golfers teed off at Riverside Campus recently for the fifth annual ACC Golf Scramble. The event raised $24,000 for the student emergency fund, which helps ACC students who face catastrophic situations continue their education.

One biology student (his name is withheld to protect his privacy) knows the importance of the emergency fund firsthand. The 24-year-old was riding his bike between campuses this year when an uninsured driver hit him. He faced significant medical expenses and wouldn’t have been able to continue his studies without the help of the emergency fund.

Cards placed in each golf cart told similar stories of students assisted by the fund.

The foursome from Rockford Business Interiors, pictured here with ACC President Stephen Kinslow, won the tournament.

“It’s rewarding to know that we are really making a difference in these students’ futures,” says John Hernandez, a former ACC board member who founded the Golf Scramble. “Without this fund, their educational plans would be derailed. It gives them the support they need to make it through a very difficult situation.”

SpawGlass Contractors, Inc. sponsored the tournament.
