Professional Development

Lighthouse – (Faculty Information Utility)
ACC, along with all other public colleges and universities, is required to comply with HB 2504 mandates beginning in Fall 2010.

A website has been developed for Lighthouse.  This website will assist you in meeting the requirements.  You will find tutorials, links to the live application, and a link to the full bill at http://www.austincc.edu/ITdocs/lighthouse/.   Additionally, Lighthouse training sessions are currently scheduled. You will find available workshops here: https://www3.austincc.edu/it/workshops/www/gotoevents.php .

Reminder from Professional Development:
The deadline for completion of required professional development activities for FY10 (September 2009- August 2010) is August 31st.

You may apply any professional development hours earned at General Assembly to either this past year or the new academic year, FY11 (IMPORTANT: Please make the appropriate changes before the deadline in order for professional development credits to be included in the correct academic year’s calculations).  Keep in mind that 100% of any hours you complete over your requirement will be rolled into the next academic year. Therefore, you will lose none of the hours you may have accumulated over your required amount.

If you are a supervisor or administrative assistant and are entering any professional development hours for FY10, you will need to complete the entries by September 10th. On that day, the database will close for that year and excess hours will be rolled into FY11.

Benefits

You have until November 15 to spend TexFlex funds
If you are a TexFlex participant, you have until November 15, 2010 to spend any remaining dollars in your TexFlex accounts for Plan Year 2010. The Internal Revenue Service allows you up to 2½ months beyond the end of the plan year to spend the money on eligible expenses.

You must send all reimbursement claims to PayFlex by December 31, 2010. Do not send them to ERS. Read more about TexFlex.

New ID cards will be mailed soon
If you are an active employee enrolled in health insurance, you will receive new ID cards for Plan Year 2011. The ID cards will list the new copays effective September 1.

HealthSelect of Texas
Around August 20, HealthSelect will mail two ID cards in separate mailings:

  • Medical card from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX)
  • Prescription card from Caremark

If you receive a new medical ID card with the message “NO PCP ON FILE,” this means your primary care physician (PCP) designation was not received or recognized by BCBSTX. You will need to call BCBSTX to register your PCP selection.

If you live out-of-state or are eligible for Medicare, you are considered out-of-area. You will receive just one ID card from Caremark. You will not get a medical card from BCBSTX because information listed on your card did not change.

Scott & White Health Plan
The Scott & White Health Plan HMO will mail your ID card on August 20. PCP designations are not shown on the ID cards. If you haven’t designated a PCP, Scott & White will remind you to choose one. If you don’t select a PCP within 30 days, Scott & White will assign a PCP based on your ZIP code on file. If you want to change from this assigned PCP, call Scott & White.

Compensation

Overtime
ACC follows the practice of paying employees in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).  Therefore, Classified employees must be paid for overtime hours and may not be offered compensatory time for overtime hours worked.  Classified employees are non-exempt from FLSA.  When Classified employees are required to work overtime, they must be paid their overtime rate for all hours worked in excess of 40 hours in a week.  There are no exceptions to this practice.  If you have questions, contact Dr. Gerry Tucker at [email protected] .
