Benefits

Reducing Stress Through Meditation
We live in a time of ever increasing change.  The stress we feel is taking its toll on our bodies, minds, and souls through illness, exhaustion, and a sense of isolation.  There are proven ways to reduce the stress we feel.  Through these meditation techniques you will learn to live a life that is more relaxed, purposeful, and connected.  Come spend an hour each week learning and practicing meditation techniques based on cognitive science principles.

The next class will on November 4th. Classes will generally be held on Thursdays from noon to 1:00 pm, in HBC, Room 411.   Register at https://www3.austincc.edu/it/workshops/www/login.php

Don’t forget: Spend your Plan Year ’10 TexFlex money by November 15
If you are a TexFlex participant, you have until November 15, 2010 to spend any remaining dollars in your Plan Year 2010 TexFlex accounts. This grace period gives you an additional 2 ½ months beyond the end of the plan year to incur eligible expenses.

What does this mean to you? All grace period expenses (with a date of service between September 1, 2010 and November 15, 2010) will be paid out of your “prior” plan year balance, helping you to “use up” the prior plan year balance first. In other words, member claims with a date of service between September 1, 2010 and November 15, 2010 will be applied to your 2010 balance. Once the Plan Year 2010 balance is exhausted, the remaining claims will be applied toward your 2011 election amount.

Remember, TexFlex also features a 120 day run-out period, which allows you to file claims up until December 31. As always, any balance remaining in a 2010 account after December 31 will be forfeited. It is not recommended that you wait until December 31 to file Plan Year 2010 claims, in case corrections need to be made.

If you have any questions regarding this process, contact PayFlex at (866) FlexTex or (866) 353-9839.

Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure
The 2010 Race date is Sunday, November 7! You are invited to join an ACC team for The Race for The Cure.

This year if EACH of us would commit to raising a minimum of $125, which is the cost of a mammogram, Komen Austin would be able to give back more than $2.6 MILLION to local breast programs, and to research for the cures.

You can register at http://austin.info-komen.org/race .

Celebration of Great Teaching
The Celebration of Great Teaching is now accepting applications for faculty participants.  This unique, faculty-focused event differs from most retreats in that the program is created by the participants themselves. The format often includes teaching clinics, panels, organized discussions, “hands on” workshops, and presentations by participants. It also features choices among activities. The exchange takes place not only in scheduled sessions but also informally and in conversations. The goals of the seminar include sharing methods and techniques, celebrating good teaching, creative and realistic problem solving, exploration of new ideas, and professional and personal renewal.

The retreat will be held April 1-3, 2011 at the Flying L Guest Ranch in Bandera, Texas.

To learn more about the retreat and how to apply, please go to http://www.austincc.edu/hr/profdev/greatteaching/index.php.

If you have any questions, please contact David Lydic at [email protected] or Terry Mouchayleh at [email protected].
