ACC Annexation: Frequently Asked Questions

Voters in two communities approved annexation into the Austin Community College District on November 2. Read on for answers to frequently asked annexation questions.

What was the outcome of the annexation elections?

Annexation passed in Elgin ISD and Hays CISD. Annexation did not pass in San Marcos CISD, Bastrop ISD, or McDade ISD.

I live in Elgin ISD or Hays CISD. What does annexation mean for my tuition rate?

Students who live within the boundaries of Elgin ISD or Hays CISD immediately become eligible for the lower, in-district tuition rate ($42 per credit hour versus $150 per hour for out-of-district), starting in spring 2011.

The tuition rate for Elgin and Hays students does not change for fall 2010 classes.

Students can verify their ISD using their county’s Central Appraisal District web site/address search system. For more information, please contact the Hays Central Appraisal District (512.268.2522) or Bastrop Central Appraisal District (512.303.1930).

What if I have already registered for spring classes?

Those who have already registered for spring 2011 classes will be reimbursed for the difference. As soon as the election is certified (expected to happen on Nov. 10), the college will begin processing those refunds.

The process for identifying and changing tuition rates for all students using the ISD address data will take approximately 4-6 weeks. If payment was made by credit card, the refund will be automatically put back on the credit card that was used. All other refunds are sent to students using their ACC OneCard. (All students receive OneCards when they enter ACC.) The refund is sent using whatever method the student designated when they set up their ACC OneCard account.

Students can view their residency status and their ACC payments and refunds by logging into their Online Services account.

When do Elgin and Hays get their campuses?

ACC will build full-service campuses in Elgin and Kyle. The college will break ground early next year; the campuses will open in fall 2013. Campus websites will be active soon so you can follow construction progress. See www.austincc.edu/hays and www.austincc.edu/elgin.

What classes will I be able to take at the Elgin and North Hays campuses?

You can see the service plans for each community by visiting ACC’s annexation website. Click here for Elgin’s service plan; click here for the North Hays service plan. These plans will also be available on the campus websites that will go live after the election results are certified.

I live in San Marcos CISD, Bastrop ISD, or McDade ISD. What does the vote against annexation mean for me?

Tuition will remain at the out-of-district rate ($150 per credit hour) for students from San Marcos CISD, Bastrop ISD, and McDade ISD. The college does not build campuses outside its taxing district, so ACC will not proceed with construction of campuses in those areas. Students will be able to take classes at the Elgin and Hays campuses when they open.
