ACC Board Certifies Annexation Election Results

The Austin Community College District Board of Trustees certified the results of the November 2 annexation elections during a special meeting Wednesday evening.

Final vote tallies indicate annexation into the ACC District passed in Elgin ISD by 61 percent, or 2,499 to 1,570. In Hays CISD, 59 percent of voters approved the measure, or 6,932 to 4,924.

Elgin ISD and Hays CISD residents are immediately eligible for in-district tuition. Students who have already registered and paid for spring 2011 classes will receive a reimbursement for the difference between the out-of-district rate and the in-district rate – a tuition reduction of 72 percent, from $150 per credit hour down to $42 per hour. With the certification of election results, the college will now begin processing those refunds.

ACC is also preparing to break ground on new campuses in both communities. The college has entered into contracts for 98 acres in Elgin and 96 acres in Kyle. Construction is scheduled to begin early next year; the Elgin and North Hays campuses will open fall 2013.
