ACC Program Teaches College Success Skills

ACC is offering a new program that gives GED graduates and other adults interested in going to college an opportunity to build key skills for academic success. The ACC Transitions Program is now accepting applications for its free 12-week preparation course. The next Transitions course begins January 24 and meets Monday through Thursday evenings at ACC’s Eastview Campus (3401 Webberville Rd.).

Focused on breaking down common barriers to college achievement, Transitions offers students intense preparation for college reading, writing, and math, along with proven study strategies for entrance exams and tests. The program also includes career counseling and assistance with applications for ACC admission and financial aid.

“There is a difference between being eligible for college and being ready for college,” said Transitions Coordinator Charlene Gill. “The first group to participate in the program this fall raved about it and recommended it to their friends. They gained the self confidence that comes with being well prepared for college success.”Â

To be eligible for Transitions, students must be Unites States citizens and hold a GED or high school diploma. Current and former developmental education students are also encouraged to apply. Students must maintain a 75 percent attendance rate.

To sign up, visit austincc.edu/transitions or contact Charlene Gill, ACC Transitions coordinator, at [email protected] or (512) 223-5122.

Class times: Monday & Wednesday 7-9 p.m., Tuesday & Thursday 5:30-9:30 p.m.
