ACC Welcomes First African-American in Space for Black History Month

Austin Community College welcomes retired NASA astronaut Dr. Guy Bluford, the first African-American in space, in honor of Black History Month. Bluford will be at ACC’s Eastview Campus Wednesday, February 23, to speak and answer questions. The event is free and open to the public.

Bluford’s talk, “Flying Aboard the International Space Station,” will focus on setting ambitious goals and celebrating personal triumphs.

“When I speak with young audiences, I encourage them to aim high, do their best, and persist,” says Bluford.

The event will take place noon to 2 p.m. in the Multipurpose Hall (3401 Webberville Rd., Room 8500). Refreshments and photos are included.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for students and the community to meet a true American hero,” says Loretta Edelen, ACC’s director of community outreach. “Dr. Bluford broke barriers, and his accomplishments will inspire us to reach for our highest potential.”
