ACC Partners with Georgetown Biotech Center

The Austin Community College District is partnering with a Georgetown biotechnology center to enhance the biotechnology and life-sciences workforce.

ACC recently signed an agreement with the Texas Life-Sciences Collaboration Center (TLCC), which provides resources to developing biotechnology firms. The partnership will give students access to internships at TLCC member companies.

“ACC values its partnerships with business and industry across Central Texas,” said Mike Midgley, vice president of instruction for ACC. “This agreement provides opportunities for shared resources and opens new doors for our students.”

Round Rock Campus is located near the TLCC complex in south Georgetown. ACC’s Biotechnology Department offers classes at Round Rock Campus, giving students high-tech training and skills to work in a variety of positions and fields.

“The TLCC and ACC have a shared interest in educating the future workforce in the fields of biotechnology and life sciences to preserve the long-term competitiveness of the region, as well as the U.S. in the global economy,” said Russ Peterman, TLCC executive director.

The two organizations will jointly seek grant funding for the purchase of equipment and paid internships. In addition, the agreement calls for ACC to give consideration to part-time teaching opportunities for staff from TLCC and its member companies. All instructors must meet education and experience requirements for ACC faculty, and opportunities are based on program need and availability of positions.

The agreement covers a one-year period, with an option for future renewal.
