“Moving Beyond Cancer” Event Set for April 1 at Rio Grande Campus

ACC’s Rio Grande Campus will host “Moving Beyond Cancer,” a forum that will examine how different people and disciplines play roles in helping cancer survivors move forward. The event takes place Friday, April 1, from 9:30 a.m. to noon in the Rio Grande Campus auditorium (1212 Rio Grande St., room 201 in the main building).

“Moving Beyond Cancer” will feature a group of dedicated professionals who represent nursing, psychology, counseling, massage therapy, physical therapy, patient advocacy, social work, and kinesiology. They will share inspirational stories of strength and transformation among cancer survivors.

“This is very personal to all of us who are cancer survivors,” says Dr. MariaLi Ramos-Cancel, an ACC psychology professor and yoga teacher who is organizing the event. “Cancer does not define who we are or what we can become. There are ways to see beyond cancer and improve our overall sense of wellness.”

“Moving Beyond Cancer” is open to students, faculty, staff, and the community. It is sponsored by the Behavioral Sciences Department and the Honors Human Growth and Development course.
