The Austin Community College District will host the fifth annual Día de la Familia Saturday, April 16, at Riverside Campus (1020 Grove Blvd., 11 a.m.-2 p.m.). Families will have an opportunity to learn about ACC and enjoy live Tejano music, games, and Tex-Mex food.
“In Hispanic culture, we have a saying: ‘Mi casa es su casa,'” says Dr. Mariano Díaz-Miranda, director of ACC’s Latino/Latin American Studies Center. “I want to bring that feeling to the community by telling people, ‘Our college is your college.'”
In addition to Día de la Familia, this year families are invited to come to Riverside Campus earlier in the day to attend the Hispanic Futures Conference, sponsored by the Austin Independent School District (9-11 a.m.). There will be information booths and presentations designed to connect Hispanic families with the tools they need to succeed educationally and professionally.
“We are excited to have these events together,” says Dr. Díaz-Miranda. “Families will experience a college campus for themselves and learn how to include college in their future.”
Día de la Familia and the Hispanic Futures Conference are free and open to the public. For more information, call (512) 223.6361.
