Festival offers family fun, college info
The ACC Riverside Campus will swell with festivities on Saturday, April 16, welcoming families to the fifth annual Día de la Familia, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
Each year the festival delivers college information in Spanish and English alongside energetic doses of live Tejano music, fun children’s games, and delicious Tex-Mex food.
“In Hispanic culture, we have a saying: ‘Mi casa es su casa.’ I want to bring that feeling to the community by telling people, ‘Our college is your college,'” says Dr. Mariano Díaz-Miranda, director of El Centro, the Latino/Latin American Studies Center which hosts the annual spring event.
In addition to Día de la Familia, this year families are invited to come earlier in the day to attend the Hispanic Futures Conference hosted by Austin ISD, 9-11 a.m. There will be information booths and presentations designed to connect Hispanic families with the tools and information they need to succeed in college, careers, and life.
“Our theme is ‘i am acc,’ ” says Raul Alvarez, an Austin ISD official who is organizing the conference. “ACC has programs in culinary arts, criminal justice, business, and other areas that families can learn about. ACC graduates will talk with our families about these programs and how to plan for college.”
Combined, the events will provide a wealth of entertainment and information for families throughout the day.
“We are excited to have these events together,” Díaz-Miranda says. “Families will have plenty of time to experience a college campus for themselves and learn how to include college in their future.”
Both events are free and open to the public. For more information, call (512) 223.6361

Hello,
I have attended your event for many years and would like to see if I can be part of this event (if it is not too late).
