The Austin Community College District is delivering a new communication tool to the Deaf and hard-of-hearing community.
ACC has teamed with the video relay service Purple Communications to install video phone kiosks on every campus. Installation begins this month at the Rio Grande and Riverside campuses, with other campuses following soon after.
Video relay is a two-way translation service that allows individuals who are Deaf or hard of hearing to communicate instantaneously over video telephone by means of a sign language interpreter.
As part of the installation, Purple Communications is hosting an information session from 4:30-7 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, at the Riverside Campus. The event is free and open to the public.
The information session will be presented entirely in American Sign Language. If you need an interpreter, please contact John Aintablian by Friday, April 15, at (512) 223.6151 or [email protected].
