Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts’ Statewide Data Breach

ACC employees should be aware of a recent Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts’ data breach that may have exposed approximately three and a half million Texans to possible identify theft.  The breach affected records in the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC), and the Employees Retirement System of Texas (ERS).

Beginning Wednesday, April 13th, the Comptroller’s office will send letters to notify individuals whose personal information inadvertently was disclosed on an agency server that was accessible to the public.  For more information, please view the website at http://insideacc.austincc.edu/index.php/2011/04/13/statewide-data-breach-may-impact-you/ or the Texas Comptroller’s news release at:  http://www.txsafeguard.org/110411-security.php.  Additionally, the Texas Comptroller’s office has established a special toll-free telephone line at 1-855-474-2065 for individuals to call to check if they will receive a notification letter.
