Luggage Still Needed for Foster Care Graduates; Deadline May 13

Check out KUT Radio’s story on how your donation will make a difference in the life of a foster care graduate.

As teenagers in foster care graduate high school, they often leave their foster residences with nothing in which to carry their belongings. ACC’s third annual luggage drive gives you an opportunity to assist local graduating seniors as they take their next step in life.

The ACC Foster Care Program is collecting new luggage (preferably carry-on, rolling duffels) and contributions toward the purchase of new luggage. You can drop off donations at any ACC campus, and the deadline has been extended to Friday, May 13. As of May 10, participants had donated about 30 pieces of luggage, and there are 80 graduating seniors.Â

“Last year we were able to assist all 40 graduating seniors in this area, and this year there are more to help,” said Loretta Edelen, director of community outreach. “Many times, these kids leave with their things in garbage bags, and we are trying to give them brand new pieces of luggage to make that transition to adulthood easier.”

Monetary donations can be made at any campus cashier’s office, and new luggage can be left with campus representatives or at campus police offices.
